Six persons, along with two women, were taken into custody in Hyderabad police Station on Sunday in relation with the attack on a 21-year-old newly-married man in the city, police said.

The man was stabbed, reportedly by his 19-year-old wife's relatives on June 7 for marrying her without notifying them and for 'defaming' their family name.

The couple and their family were on their way back to their home that day when the incident followed.

Police confirmed that the couple had got married on June 5, 2019, after which the woman left her home and didn't return back. Following this, her family filed a missing complaint to the police.

Meanwhile, the couple notified the police that they had tied the knot without permission from their parents and following this, the parents and some of their relatives were asked to come to the police station for the counselling about this issue.

The attack happened when they were on their way back to their home after leaving the police station.

The man was pulled out from his vehicle and then they stabbed, while the two women beat his mother and wife, before escaping from the spot, the police confirmed.

The video was captured by the passers-by and it went viral on social media which is questioning the fundamental rights to marry of one's choice.

The Police on Monday has confirmed that the man was out of danger. They also confirmed that five knives were seized from the suspected and that they are in search of two others, who have escaped.
