India's opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan on Wednesday posted an emotional video on his social media handles after he was ruled out of the remaining World Cup fixtures due to a thumb injury.

Dhawan is going to be replaced by dashing wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant in India's 15-member squad after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had sent an official request for the replacement to the International Cricket Council (ICC).

In the video, Dhawan expressed about the scope of his thumb injury and urged the fans to keep on supporting the Indian team as they look to win the trophy for the third time.

Here is what Dhawan wrote on his post: "I feel emotional to announce that I will no longer be a part of #CWC19. Unfortunately, the thumb won't recover on time. But the show must go on.. I'm grateful for all the love & support from my teammates, cricket lovers & our entire nation. Jai Hind!".
Here is what he said in the minute-long video: "Unfortunately my thumb won't be recovering on time, I really wanted to play the World Cup and represent my country. Now it's time for me to go back, recover well and be ready for the next action.

"I'm sure the boys are doing a great job at the moment and they are going to win the World Cup. Keep praying for us and keep supporting us, your support and prayers are very important and very dear to us. Thank you again for all your support and love," Dhawan said in the video.
Here is the announcement from the team manager about Shikhar Dhawan being ruled out:
The team management had previously put Shikhar Dhawan under observation after getting injured in the match against Australia but then called in Rishabh Pant from India as cover just before India's match against New Zealand, which was eventually abandoned without a ball being bowled.

In the next game against Pakistan on 16 June, KL Rahul stepped in to open with Rohit Sharma and scored 57 and added a record 1st wicket partnership of 136.

Meanwhile, here are a few tweets posted by emotional Indian cricket fans after knowing the news about Dhawan being ruled out:

India, although had a great start to their World Cup campaign with their wins against South Africa, Australia and Pakistan while the game against New Zealand was washed out, were struck by injuries of their crucial players with Shikhar Dhawan already being ruled out and opening pacer Bhuvneswar Kumar being ruled for 2-3 games.

India in the next fixture faces Afghanistan on Saturday (June 22) before they take on the Caribbean power West Indies, the hosts England, in-form Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
