A Muslim man named Tabrez Ansari was beaten up by a mob in Kharsawan district of Jharkhand on the suspicion of theft on June 18. He was beaten up mercilessly for over 18 hours before being handed over to the police. On 22 June, he had his last breath at Saraikela Karsawan civil hospital, where he was being treated under judicial remand.  
The victim has been identified as 24-year-old Tabrez Ansari who worked in Pune as a welder and a labourer and had come to his village in Jharkhand’s Kharsawan district to celebrate Eid with his family. He was married to his wife a month and a half ago. Tabrez decided to return to Pune with his wife and had booked a ticket for 24 June.

Several videos of the mob lynching in Jharkhand have gone viral after the incident. In one of those videos, a man was seen hitting Ansari with a wooden stick as the latter begs him to stop beating him and asks to let him go. Another video displayed Tabrez being forced to chant "Jai Shri Ram" and "Jai Hanuman".

According to the reports, On June 18, Tabrez was handed over to the police after being beaten up by the mob and was in the judicial custody since that day. On June 22, he was taken to a hospital after his condition worsened and later caused death.

One of those who are accused, named as Pappu Mandal, was arrested following Tabrez Ansari's death.

On June 18, in the night, he left his village for Jamshedpur with two men. Aurungzeb Ansari, a Jharkhand-based activist, has claimed that Tabrez was unaware where the two men were taking him. Ansari told HuffPost India that Tabrez was moulded into going with them. 
While the two men escaped from the scene, the mob caught Tabrez and started beating him up. "Ghar mein ghusega [You will enter the house?]," one of the men is heard asking Tabrez.

However, Tabrez was heard denying the charges and said that the two other men did and he was asked to wait near the motorcycle. "I did not know anything," he said. 
At the end of one of the videos of the mob lynching, one of the men asked him to chant "Jai Shri Ram" and "Jai Hanuman".
