Basit Ali, the former Pakistan cricketer has claimed that the Indian Cricket team might perform badly and intentionally lose their matches against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka as they will "never want Pakistan" to make it to the semi-finals of the ongoing World Cup.
Pakistan journalist Saj Sadiq posted a video of Basit Ali making these controversial comments on a TV show on Pakistani-based channel 'Ary News' ahead of Pakistan's win against New Zealand by six wickets in Birmingham on Wednesday.

"India will never want Pakistan to make it to the semi-finals. They have matches remaining against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Everyone saw the way in which they won against Afghanistan," said Ali, who played 50 ODIs and 19 Tests for Pakistan in his 3 years cricket career.
"They'll lose in such a way that nobody will come to know it has happened. “What happened against Afghanistan? What did Australia do against India? Warner saab yehi the na (This was the same Warner, no?)” he continues, mentioning the Australian opener, who scored a ton against Pakistan in this year's world cup fixture.

“There's a lot of power in the IPL,” he adds. “It is nonsense when people say cricket is a game of chance. What happened in 1992? New Zealand lost to Pakistan purposefully. Even the Pakistani Captain, Imran Khan will accept that. They lost so that they could play the semifinals in Auckland, New Zealand which is in their own country… Will India desire to play Pakistan in the semifinals? No. India never wants to take on Pakistan in the knockouts.” He had gently reminded of the 2011 World Cup semifinals. Ali stumbles for a second, and later replies: “Woh aa gaye the, toh khel liya… (which translates to "as we reached the semifinals, they had play…).”
After this video went viral on social media, Ali is being heavily trolled for his strange statements. While most of the Indian fans are busy making jokes around it, some of the passionate fans shared some basic facts that overthrow Ali’s logic. Here are few of those.

Meanwhile, Pakistan, after suffering an humiliating 89-run defeat to India, made a great comeback in the tournament, defeating the proteas (South Africa) and the black caps (New Zealand). They now have seven points in as many games and currently are in a four-way fight for the semi-final spot with England, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
In order to qualify from the group stage, the 1992 World Cup champions require to win their remaining two games against Afghanistan and Bangladesh to be played on June 29 (Saturday) and July 5 respectively.

India, on the other hand, is standing pretty in the top-2 being unbeaten with 11 points from six games.
