Five CRPF jawans were martyred and three others were severely injured when terrorists carried out an attack on a busy road in Anantnag district of South Kashmir around 5:15 pm on Wednesday. Station House Officer of Anantnag Police Station, Arshad Ahmed, was also injured in the attack and has been shifted to Srinagar for treatment, they said. The injured have been taken to an army hospital.

According to the officials, at least two terrorists assaulted a patrol party of the CRPF on the busy KP Road in Anantnag with automatic rifles followed by the hurling of grenades. One of the terrorists were gunned down by security forces, the other one is believed to have escaped, the officials confirmed.

Pakistan terrorist group Al-Umar Mujahideen led by Mushtaq Ahmad Zargar later claimed responsibility for the attack. A local news agency received a press release from the terrorist group.
However, as per intelligence agencies, Al-Umar Mujahideen is a deceased terrorist outfit and this attack looks like a doing of Jaish-e-Mohammed.
